CHS 750 - Advanced Theory in Health Promotion (3 units) Introduces students to advanced theory regarding concepts of health behavior, health behavior change, and health outcomes.
Prerequisite(s): Permission of instructor is required.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Independent Study: 3 Offered: Every Fall Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course: 1. Students will be able to discuss the social context and social correlates of health behavior. 2. Students will be able to consider or implement theoretically-based strategies in each stage of the health promotion program process. 3. Students will be able to discuss the measurement and manipulation of theory constructs in the major individual and small group health behavior theories. 4. Students will be able to apply multiple theories and theory-based strategies in health behavior intervention programs. 5. Students will be able to evaluate theoretically-based health promotion programs. 6. Students will be able to critically evaluate and synthesize scientific literature. 7. Students will be able to develop original research hypotheses and research questions that will advance public health knowledge. 8. Students will be able to examine and evaluate theoretical knowledge about the influence of diversity and social determinants on health. 9. Students will be able to evaluate psychometric properties of health surveys.
