ANTH 611B - Anthropology of Islam and Muslim Cultures (3 units) Overview of anthropological research on Islam and Muslim cultures. Students are introduced to the diversity and complexity of Muslim cultures.
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall - Odd Years
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. identify and explain the importance of basic concepts, key terms, and historical events in the Islamic tradition. 2. demonstrate familiarity with the diversity and complexity of Muslim cultures around the world. 3. compare and analyze how Muslims in different cultural contexts relate to universal and local aspects of the Islamic tradition. 4. describe how anthropologists have contributed to an understanding of Islam and Muslim cultures, and will know the key anthropologists working in this field.
