CEP 636 - Cognitive Learning (3 units) An examination of cognitive theories, research, and issues and their relationship to educational practice.
Units of Lecture: 3 Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. define what is involved by the perspective “cognitive learning”. 2. describe the history and forces that contributed to the development of the perspective of cognitive learning. 3. identify and describe the major theories that influence teaching and learning. 4. demonstrate awareness of cognitive factors that influence learning, including the characteristics of individual learners. 5. demonstrate increased awareness of developments in neurological research that relate to learning and adjustment. 6. recognize the significance of “meaning” in the learning process. 7. describe and be familiar with major research concerning cognitive learning and educational practice. 8. demonstrate understanding of the relationship of certain models of motivation and learning. 9. apply certain strategies to both classroom and individual student learning. 10. demonstrate understanding of the relationship of certain cognitive principles to educational technology. 11. apply strategies that enhance reflective and creative thinking. 12. recognize cultural factors in learning.
