CS 646 - Principles of Operating Systems (3 units) Concurrent processes, interprocess communication, processor management, virtual and real memory management, deadlock, file systems, disk management, performance issues, case studies. Practical experience with UNIX.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. identify, formulate, analyze, and solve complex computing or engineering problems by applying principles of computing, engineering, science, and mathematics. 2. recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in engineering and computing practice based on legal and ethical principles, considering the impact of solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts. 3. develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
