ENG 462E - American Poetry, 1945-Present (3 units) Close study of selected American poets working between World War II and the present, including Ginsberg, Plath, Bishop, and Gluck.
Prerequisite(s): ENG 303 or Junior standing.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. write lucid, well-constructed arguments analyzing and interpreting texts. 2. analyze a literary work in its cultural and historical contexts. 3. articulate the premises and assumptions of different critical approaches and apply them to poems using literary-critical vocabulary. 4. evaluate the genre-specific features of contemporary American poetry.
