GEOG 488 - Creating North American Landscapes (3 units) CO13
An examination of how distinctive American landscapes, places, and spaces are created and then transformed by human action through time. (GEOG 488 and HIST 488 are cross-listed; credit may be earned in one of the two.)
Prerequisite(s): ENG 102 ; CH 201 or CH 202 or CH 203 or CH 212 ; Junior or Senior standing.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. integrate skills of written, oral, and visual communication to pose and answer an informed question about the origins and significance of the North American landscape.
2. describe the ways that landscape is both a physical and a cultural creation.
3. explain the regional variations in the North American landscape.
4. discern national and international influences in the local landscape.
5. analyze and synthesize the impact of national political, social, and economic systems on the local landscape.
