HIST 688 - Creating North American Landscapes (3 units) An examination of how distinctive American landscapes, places, and spaces are created and then transformed by human action through time. (GEOG 688 and HIST 688 are cross-listed; credit may be earned in one of the two.)

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. integrate skills of written, oral, and visual communication to pose and answer an informed question about the origins and significance of the North American landscape. 2. describe the ways that landscape is both a physical and a cultural creation. 3. explain the regional variations in the North American landscape. 4. discern national and international influences in the local landscape. 5. analyze and synthesize the impact of national political, social, and economic systems on the local landscape.
