NURS 434 - Care of Community and Mental Health Populations: Practice (5 units) CO10
The course includes the application of the philosophical and conceptual tenets of nursing science, values, and practice in the delivery of nursing care to vulnerable populations.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the nursing program. NURS 301 ; NURS 317 ; NURS 318 ; NURS 343 ; NURS 346 . Corequisite(s): NURS 433 ; NURS 439 .

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. apply the nursing process to improve health outcomes for individuals, families, and populations across the lifespan and continuum of care.
2. implement evidence-based health promotion, risk-reduction, and disease prevention interventions of individuals, families, and populations across the lifespan.
3. demonstrate personal and professional values and their impact on decision-making professional behaviors for individuals, families, and populations across the lifespan and continuum of care.
4. demonstrate psychosocial assessment and effective therapeutic communication skills in the mental health setting across the lifespan and continuum of care.
5. apply social and ethnic factors and concepts of cultural diversity in providing care for individuals, families, and populations across the lifespan and continuum of care.
6. demonstrates intra- and inter-professional communication and collaboration to improve the health outcomes of individuals, families, and populations across the lifespan and continuum of care.
7. analyze legal, ethical, and political implications of nursing care for individuals, families, and populations across the lifespan and continuum of care.
