ENG 430A - Major Figures in British Literature (3 units) Undergraduate seminar on one or two authors, e.g., Pope and Boswell; Johnson and Dryden.

Prerequisite(s): Junior or Senior standing OR ENG 303 .
Units of Lecture: 3 Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. write lucid, well-constructed arguments analyzing and interpreting texts. 2. analyze literary works in their cultural and historical contexts. 3. display working knowledge of the canon of the relevant major British author(s), including an understanding of the traditions in which the author(s) operated and of the contributions made by the author(s). 4. analyze and discuss the generic and formal features of the key texts of the relevant author(s), and will be able to explain the relationship between those texts and the contexts in which they were written.
