PSC 603B - Energy Politics and Policy (3 units) Politics shaping American energy and resource policies examined within international, federal and partisan contexts. Special attention given to Western regional and public lands controversies.
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring - Odd Years
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. demonstrate understanding of the historical context and processes of the energy and resource policies of the United States. 2. discuss the complex interaction of domestic policies with international events. 3. demonstrate understanding of the inter-relationship of energy and environmental policies. 4. compare the policy processes surrounding the development of alternative sources of energy including nuclear, geothermal, hydroelectric, wind, solar, and biomass. 5. examine the national security implications of U.S. energy policies. 6. read and critically evaluate relevant academic literature of the specific topic areas. 7. demonstrate an advanced level of competency in the specific topic areas of energy development and use.
