SPA 340 - Speech and Language Development (3 units) Traditional and psycholinguistic approaches to language and speech development in children.
Prerequisite(s): SPA 201 or HDFS 201 or EDU 203 or CHS 101 or ENG 281 .

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. provide a definition of language and in each of the five areas of language. 2. summarize the stages of development in each of the five areas of language. 3. understand the grammatical aspect of language and analyze the basic syntactic structure of a sentence. 4. identify the relationship between cognition and language and discuss four basic theories underlying this relationship.
