EL 774 - Legal, Policy, and Safety Issues in Intercollegiate Athletic (3 units) A foundation of legal, policy, and safety issues that relate to intercollegiate athletics. Topics include Title IX, safety and risk management, injury prevention, sports medicine, abuse of student athletes and student athlete mental health.
Prerequisite(s): EL 750 .
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. identify and discuss current legal, policy, and safety issues facing intercollegiate athletics 2. understand and distinguish the roles and responsibilities of team physicians, athletic trainers, and the strength and conditioning coaches 3. be able articulate what constitutes student-athlete abuse and hazing in intercollegiate athletics 4. summarize current research and critically review the literature pertaining legal, policy, and safety issues intercollegiate athletics
