EL 771 - Diversity and Inclusion in Intercollegiate Athletics (3 units) Diversity and inclusion in intercollegiate athletics are studied with current literature and NCAA policies and initiatives. Plans for creating inclusive environments and recruiting and retaining diverse talent are discussed.
Prerequisite(s): EL 750 .
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. identify and discuss current social, financial, and educational issues facing intercollegiate athletics. 2. analyze theories, models, and practical applications in the relationship between intercollegiate athletics and higher education. 3. identify the elements necessary for planning, designing and implementing inclusive practices in an athletic department. 4. summarize current research and critically review the literature pertaining equity in intercollegiate athletics. 5. discuss NCAA guidelines and policies that relate to equity and inclusion. 6. identify professional organizations that provide information, resources, programming, and support related to equity and inclusion in intercollegiate athletics.
