AGSC 415 - Ethics and Economics of Biotechnology (3 units) CO12, CO13 Basic concepts, current thinking on the ethics and economics of biotechnology.
Prerequisite(s): General Education courses (CO1-CO3) completed; at least 3 courses from CO4-CO8 completed; Junior or Senior standing. Recommended Preparation: BIOL 100A , BIOL 191A and social science e.g. ECON 103 .

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. critically reflect on and discuss the ethical issues surrounding biotechnology in various assignments. 2. evaluate and respond to opposing viewpoints and nuances surrounding controversial ethical questions. 3. analyze the main arguments, pro and con, for the different technologies presented. 4. integrate the discussion of science, ethics, and political philosophy to formulate arguments for or against specific applications of biotechnology.
