ENG 615 - Phonemics and Comparative Phonetics (3 units) Phonetic phenomena that occur in languages of the world. Phoneme concept as applied to the analysis of speech sounds. Phonological structures.
Units of Lecture: 3 Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. identify, transcribe and analyze the major categories of speech sounds. 2. interpret spectrograms and waveforms and employ speech analysis software to record speech sounds and to make relevant acoustic measurements. 3. articulate the ethical considerations associated with human-subjects research, and explain how to mitigate them. 4. demonstrate mastery of primary data and/or secondary literature through a research project.
