GEOL 731 - Advanced Structural Geology (3 units) This course will cover a variety of advanced structural geology topics, including stress and strain relationships, rheology, mechanics, balanced cross sections, and microstructural analysis.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring - Odd Years
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. articulate the theoretical basis for stress, strain, and rheology. 2. quantitatively and qualitatively document crustal deformation at a variety of scales, from regional to mapscale to thin sections. 3. conduct advanced techniques in structural geology to quantify strain and interpret deformation conditions. 4. read and critically evaluate scientific literature related to structural geology.
