GER 315 - Introduction to German Literature (3 units) Readings in German literature in its major forms with emphasis on the modern period. Discussions. Offered through USAC only.
Prerequisite(s): GER 212 .
Units of Lecture: 3 Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. read and analyze literature from some of the main literary epochs of the 20th century which are Bürgerlicher Realismus (Fontane), Jahrhundertwende (Schnitzler, Rilke, Morgenstern, Ringelnatz), Expressionismus (Kafka, Trakl, Heym, Benn), Literatur des Exils und innere Emigration (Brecht, Kästner), Nachkriegszeit (Dürrenmatt) and Gegenwart. 2. demonstrate ability to express opinions and points of view in discussions and in writing German. 3. interpret and analyze literature. 4. demonstrate knowledge of the authors and historical background of the texts.
