HIST 231 - History of Africa II (3 units) Africa since 1850. The scramble for Africa, African nationalism, post-colonial Africa, and the AIDS crisis, gender, popular culture, and African Diaspora communities.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. analyze, evaluate, and interpret primary sources. 2. analyze and clearly explain the argument, main points, and use of evidence in secondary sources. 3. clearly and effectively articulate an original interpretation in verbal and written form. 4. identify key events, issues, and policies related to Africa since 1850, including the Scramble for Africa, African nationalism, and post-colonial Africa.
