IS 495 - Is Development and Management

The analysis, design, prototyping, and documentation of a major information system.

Prerequisite(s): IS 201 ; IS 301 ; IS 350  or CS 135 ; IS 365 ; IS 445 ; IS 475 ; MGT 321  or ENG 321 ; Business major or minor.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. plan and execute a systems analysis project in a real-world organization.
2. identify and analyze a business’ need for a system improvement/enhancement.
3. prepare and use various information gathering techniques for eliciting user information requirements and system expectations.
4. construct and interpret a variety of system analysis and design documents and models.
5. identify available solutions and implementation strategies to solve business problems and evaluate each alternative using appropriate criteria.
6. use the capabilities of software development tools (Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Project, etc.) to develop system models, plans and descriptions.
7. produce the requisite documentation for the investigation, analysis and high-level design of an information system, and communicate it effectively and persuasively, both orally and in writing.
