MIL 302 - Applied Leadership in Small Unit Operations

(3 units)
Course focuses on applied leadership in small unit operations. It is an academically challenging course where students will study, practice, and apply the fundamentals of direct level leadership and small unit tactics at the platoon level.

Prerequisite(s): MIL 301 .

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. demonstrate understanding of and use Army publications and professional reading; practice developing and leading training.
2. discuss the direct level of leadership and its relationship with the attributes and competencies identified in the Army Leader Requirements model.
3. discuss the bases of power and influencing others and their obligation to use power to positively influence the Soldiers they are responsible for leading and the theoretical elements of Emotional Intelligence.
4. describe motivation and analyze how discipline is the foundation of motivation.
5. define conflict and negotiation and how Soldier Leader Engagement (SLE) is a form of negotiation.
6. articulate the Army Professional Ethic and how it relates to honorable living (service).
