MUS 380 - Classroom Instruments (2 units) Beginning instruction in pedagogy and performance of elementary classroom instruments.
Prerequisite(s): MUS 381 .
Units of Lecture: 2 Offered: Every Spring - Odd Years
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. sing, play, and teach a body of songs, games, and activities appropriate for children in grades K-6. 2. play, accompany, and teach the piano, guitar, various voices of recorder, hand drums, other unpitched and pitched rhythm instruments as well as utilize them appropriately in the elementary music classroom. 3. create and implement clearly written, age-appropriate lesson plans intended for use in the elementary music classroom and extend those lessons into units. 4. indentify and apply instructional and management strategies for teaching at this level. 5. compose arrangements suitable for various elementary grade levels. 6. reflect upon and assess their own and other’s teaching and learning through discussions and assignments.
