EL 773 - Case Studies in Intercollegiate Athletics (3 units) The course will examine case studies in intercollegiate athletics. The examination will review the history and the role of intercollegiate athletics within the context of contemporary American higher education.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring - Odd Years
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. analyze the role of intercollegiate athletics in higher education and discuss related leadership and administrative decision making. 2. research, analyze and discuss recent issues facing universities and issues regarding its athletics programs and the outcomes. 3. discuss the historical and philosophical basis and role of intercollegiate athletics within higher education. 4. critically examine external regulations and the impact of external constituencies upon the administration of intercollegiate athletics. 5. analyze the administrative structure of intercollegiate athletics and the university as a whole.
