EL 776 - History of Intercollegiate Athletics

This course provides an overview of the history of intercollegiate athletics. It examines the significance of college sports from the pre-NCAA era to the present.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. identify and discuss current social, financial, and educational issues facing intercollegiate athletics.
2. identify significant events, ideas, organizations, and figures throughout the history of intercollegiate athletics.
3. describe the impact of Title IX and school desegregation on modern sport.
4. demonstrate a knowledge of the NCAA and its impact on intercollegiate athletics.
5. analyze theories, models, and practical applications in the relationship between intercollegiate athletics and higher education.
