MUS 713 - Topics in Twentieth and Twenty-First Century Music (3 units) Western music cultures from the Twentieth Century to the present day with an emphasis toward understanding how musical meanings and values are created in a cultural context. There is a significant writing and participation component to this class.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. analyze the variety of social, cultural, migrational, ethnic, and gendered contexts that inform music of the Twentieth and Twenty-First Centuries. 2. speak and write about music with theoretical knowledge and analytical sophistication. 3. apply their knowledge of music history to their area of specialization.
