MUS 714 - Special Topics in American Music (3 units) Examines topics in American music, with an emphasis toward understanding how musical meaning and values are created in a cultural context. There is a significant writing and participation component to the class.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. analyze the variety of social, cultural, migrational, ethnic, and gendered contexts that inform the music of America. 2. speak and write about music with theoretical knowledge and analytical sophistication. 3. apply their knowledge of American music history to their area of specialization.
