AGSC 460 - Introduction to Plant Breeding (3 units) CO9 This course explores the history and methods of plant breeding, and introduces students to the cultural and legal ramifications of the art and science of producing the global food supply.
Prerequisite(s): BIOL 300 . Recommended Preparation: BIOL 190A ; BIOL 191A ; BIOL 330 ; APST 270 .
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. differentiate between natural and artificial selection as they relate to plant evolution, domestication, and modern breeding. 2. describe methods for inducing synthetic variation (mutations) that will have selection and economic value.
