NURS 796 - Considerations for Management of the Geriatric Population (1 unit) Synthesis and practical application of advanced concepts in the care of geriatric patients in the primary care setting.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to MSN program.

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. implement principles of health promotion, disease prevention, and management of selected chronic illnesses commonly occurring in the geriatric population. 2. examine age related changes and advanced health assessment and screening of geriatric patients. 3. integrate principles and management strategies of patient centered end of life care addressing the impact and role of the patients’ family and caregivers. 4. utilize knowledge of high risk medications and safe geriatric prescribing.
