NURS 784 - Role of the AGPCNP Managing Chronic Illness in Primary Care (3 units) This course examines the pathophysiological, psychosocial, and human basis for occurrence, detection, and management of selected chronic illnesses in the adult and geriatric populations. Management focuses on prevention, intervention, health maintenance, evaluation, and the human experience.
Prequisite(s): NURS 716 ; NURS 717 ; NURS 750 ; NURS 773 ; NURS 774 . Corequisite(s): NURS 785 .
Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. utilize knowledge and skills from previous courses to assess, diagnose, and treat chronic illnesses in clients. 2. provide comprehensive health education and health maintenance interventions to clients with chronic health problems. 3. identify appropriate referral mechanisms. 4. integrate nursing theory into the delivery of advance practice nursing care. 5. integrate into practice the NONPF Core Competencies. 6. identify provisions for the full spectrum of health care services to include health promotion, disease prevention, health protection, anticipatory guidance, counseling, disease management, palliative, and end-of-life care.
