PEDI 661A - Adolescent Medicine (1 unit) This rotation will allow the learner to gain knowledge and skills in the provision of healthcare to adolescents and young adults (AYA).
Grading Basis: Medical (no units/GPA) Units of Internship/Practicum: 1 Offered: Every Fall, Spring, and Summer
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. demonstrate an understanding of the importance of confidentiality and consent when caring for adolescents and young adults (AYA). 2. describe confidential services for adolescent minors. 3. describe the common risk-taking behaviors of AYA and the factors that contribute to their participation in these behaviors. 4. perform a psychosocial interview with an AYA patient using HEADSSS. 5. discuss various methods to counsel AYA in making choices to improve their physical and mental health.
