The role of medicines in society. The history of drug origins and uses. Modern development of drugs, use and misuse of drugs, and the dependence of modern society on the availability of drugs.

Prerequisite(s): BIOL 190A .

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. explain how the history of drug uses and the scientific and technological development of drugs informs current understanding of how drugs impact individuals and society.  
2. evaluate the responsibilities of government and individuals in the healthcare system to individuals and society using examples of both success and failure in the use of drugs.  
3. analyze and present a case for and against the use of Alternative Medicine.
