ART 397 - Advanced Field Studies (1 to 3 units) CO14
Advanced field and archival research in the arts. Students will analyze questions related to the intersection of the humanities, science through immersive travel to art and cultural locations within the U.S, and aboard to produce artistic projects.
Maximum units a student may earn: 6
Prerequisite(s): General Education courses (CO1-CO3) completed; at least 3 courses from CO4-CO8 completed; Junior or Senior standing. Completion of one or more upper division Studio Art Courses.
Grading Basis: Graded

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. recognize and explain essential knowledge about art, galleries, museums and art locations through proposed group travel.
2. identify and explain fundamental elements of artworks through reading, writing, discussion and presentations.
3. demonstrate and refine personal field methods to create a cohesive scholarly or creative project.
4. synthesize and communicate technical, theoretical, and conceptual aspects of field work incorporated for scholarly and creative practices.
5. apply professional practices through the development of artist statements, artwork documentation, and presentation strategies.
6. communicate organized evaluation of research findings in written and verbal formats.
7. express how technical and conceptual elements of art making address or challenge past or current visions of diversity and Inclusivity in the arts.
