EDSP 720 - Career/Community Life: Persons with Severe Disabilities (3 units) Theoretical and applied study of adaptive, vocational, career, and community life needs of persons with severe disabilities. Includes community services available for transition planning.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. demonstrate understanding of challenges and issues related to transitioning students with low-incidence disabilities into vocational, community, and post-secondary educational settings. 2. demonstrate understanding of the history of the inclusion of individuals with disabilities into vocational, community, and post-secondary educational settings and how that history has contributed to the current legal aspects of transition requirements and service for individuals with low-incidence disabilities. 3. develop a comprehensive, student-centered transition plan, following evidence-based methodologies, strategies, and protocols as part of a transition assessment, for a secondary age student with a low-incidence disability and involve the family/caregiver as appropriate. 4. demonstrate understanding of relevant community resources and agencies and their eligibility requirements to assist in the transition process for students with low-incidence disabilities in order to facilitate effective collaboration to ensure successful post-secondary transition outcomes for students with low-incidence disabilities.
