ART 605 - High Desert Installation II

(3 units)
In the same series as ART 604, this is a fieldwork, studio course designed for students to create projects onsite in different high desert locations in the Great Basin. Students will explore large issues of sustainable practice, land use and alternative display by preparing and presenting artwork in the landscape. (Formerly SNU: NWGN 511)

Prerequisite(s): formerly Sierra Nevada University Interdisciplinary Art MFA student.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. design and execute artworks from an ethical and sustainable practice within the environment with specific attention to how artwork exists under expansion.
2. posit multiple strategies for visionary practice as it relates to geologic time.
3. produce projects that juxtapose urban and wilderness art-making practice.
4. speak about their work from a collaborative perspective informed by the value of community and the extension of individually defined audience.
5. evidence a refined familiarity with what is at stake when presenting art outside of a gallery context and considering the specificity of history and geography in their projects.
