GEOL 498 - Senior Thesis (3 units) CO13, CO14 Integration of geology sub-disciplines, other sciences, mathematics and English in a directed theoretical, field or experimental research project, culminating in a written thesis and oral defense.

Prerequisite(s): Prerequisite(s): General Education courses (CO1-CO3) completed; at least 3 courses from CO4-CO8 completed; Junior or Senior standing. Instructor permission required.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Independent Study: 3 units Offered: Every Fall, Spring, and Summer
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. integrate Quantitative Reasoning and Critical Analysis & Use of Information to formulate and carry out a research project. 2. synthesize information and techniques from previous coursework across disciplines to identify and use the basic materials and resources needed to carry out a research project. 3. communicate the results of Senior Thesis research orally and in writing, following the standards of scholarly articles in Geoscience. 4. articulate and follow ethical principles in a scientific context, including professional standards of laboratory practice, the communication of literature research without plagiarism, and the crediting of collaborators and standards for co-authorship.
