ART 224 - Beginning Printmaking: Relief (3 units) Lecture/studio instruction in printing woodcuts, linocuts and assembled relief surfaces.
Prerequisite(s): ART 100 ; ART 124 .
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Laboratory/Studio: 3 Offered: Every Fall and Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. demonstrate knowledge and skills in both traditional and various relief techniques. 2. demonstrate safe and responsible use of relief techniques, equipment, and studio space. 3. demonstrate self-critiquing skills to develop autonomous expression through relief printmaking techniques while recognizing the standards and definitions already established by both contemporary and historical works of art from different cultures. 4. acknowledge and utilize multiple possibilities in relief print techniques and push their creative ability and find their own unique voice and style in the art-making process. 5. discuss meaningful questions, identify ideas and issues, and develop a basic vocabulary to be able to actively participate in a critical dialogue about relief technique and printmaking in contemporary art with others.
