BIOL 395 - Laboratory in Genetics and Cell Biology (2 units) CO9, CO14 Research techniques and investigative approaches in cellular and molecular biology.
Prerequisite(s): BIOL 192 ; BIOL 300 or BIOL 304 . Corequisite(s): BIOL 315 .

Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. demonstrate basic techniques including the correct use of pipettes (especially for small volumes) and the ability to load samples into a gel. 2. demonstrate in writing or verbally an understanding of the techniques, reagents and basic calculations used in a modern molecular biology laboratory. 3. maintain an informative laboratory notebook. 4. generate a formal scientific report consisting of an introduction, methods, results and discussion sections with formal labeled and described figures. 5. describe how scientific and technological developments in cell and molecular biology affect society.
