MUS 425 - Film Music (3 units) CO13, CO14 Interdisciplinary study of film music, focusing on the various functions of different kinds of music used on soundtracks.
Prerequisite(s): General Education courses (CO1-CO3) completed; at least 3 courses from CO4-CO8 completed; Junior or Senior standing.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Summer
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. demonstrate a familiarity with the current state of research in media studies, specifically, the state of Film Music Studies. 2. make connections between and apply theories from cultural studies, music, theater, history, and media courses in the context of their study of film music. 3. demonstrate their writing ability through weekly papers and large format papers. 4. demonstrate their ability to synthesize information, use critical analysis of the works under discussion, and interpret these artworks in an articulate, nuanced manner. 5. develop and design appropriate steps and tasks to conduct a research project based on an original research question.
