NURS 487 - Social Justice in Health Care (3 units) CO10 Introduction to social justice topics as they relate to the healthcare professions.

Prerequisite(s): General Education courses (CO1-CO3) completed; at least 3 courses from CO4-CO8 completed; Junior or Senior standing. Recommended Preparation: Enrollment in a healthcare-related major is strongly encouraged.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. describe the impact of social justice and health equity policies on population outcomes. 2. apply principles of professional nursing ethics and human rights in patient care and professional situations. 3. advocate for social justice and health equity, including addressing the health of vulnerable populations. 4. analyze the impact of conscious and unconscious bias on personal and professional values. 5. integrate core principles of social justice and human rights into nursing practice.
