AGSC 309 - Resource Economics (3 units) Application of economic theory to inform pro-social (optimal, as it were) use of natural resources. Emphasis on identifying misaligned economic incentives and constructing environmental policy to correct them. (AGSC 309 and ECON 309 are cross listed; credit may be earned in one of the two.)
Prerequisite(s): ECON 102 .
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring - Odd Years
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. view the history of natural resource management from an economic perspective and provide an informed critique of current environmental policy. 2. apply economic theory to modern problems concerning land use, fisheries, forestry, oil extraction, pollution, water allocation, and climate change. 3. communicate clear and convincing suggestions for environmental policy through the identification and correction of misaligned economic incentives. 4. represent economic arguments rigorously by augmenting intuition and logic with detailed graphical models.
