ANTH 309 - Museum Studies

(3 units) CO14
Overview of the history, philosophy, and role of museums in contemporary society. Introduction to museum operations including organization, management, collections, and funding; exhibit, outreach, and educational program planning; and digital presence and publications. The course includes supervised field trips to museums and a practicum experience. (ART 308, ANTH 309 and HIST 309 are cross-listed; credit may be earned in one of the three.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. describe key aspects of museum studies and explain current issues in the field.
2. identify professional job opportunities and training expectations associated with careers in museums and related institutions.
3. apply knowledge of the specialized work of museums and related institutions in a practical internship experience.
