ENG 406A - Rhetorical Design (3 units) CO14 This class will introduce design thinking as a method of adapting writing for different rhetorical situations and uses. Students will apply the theory and practice of rhetorical design to create multi-modal documents for classroom, university, and public audiences.
Prerequisite(s): ENG 301 or ENG 303 or at least Junior standing.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Spring - Even Years
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. develop a rhetorical vocabulary for analyzing design (for example, text, genre, modality, medium, circulation, users). 2. articulate the rhetorical forces enacted by the choice of a certain design. 3. analyze the audience(s) targeted by a particular design. 4. apply learning from the course and writing major to develop projects of practical significance for specific clients/community partners.
