JOUR 618 - Magazine Writing (3 units) As preparation for writing their own long-form magazine pieces, students will read, analyze, and discuss some of the most influential and creative magazine stories of recent decades.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall and Spring
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. analyze the key elements of the most effective contemporary magazine journalism. 2. propose compelling ideas for magazine stories and plan effectively to execute the necessary reporting. 3. compose and create their own examples of accomplished magazine writing. 4. analyze current trends in media innovation in magazine and long-form journalism and assess the impact of those trends on media ethics and quality.
