REM 694 - Range and Forest Administration and Policy

Public administration of land and resource management, history of agencies, laws and policies, administrative procedures, policy formation, decision-making, planning, and public participation as related to ethics, science, and politics.

A mix of in-person and online learning materials and activities. Students will be provided with a full-semester schedule detailing which days are in-person and which days are for independent online learning.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. explain the concepts of ethical principles and informed opinions and provide examples of each in the context of range & forest natural resources and environmental issues.
2. apply ethical principles to synthesize multiple perspectives, sources of information and policies regarding a variety of range & forest natural resources and environmental issues in verbal and written communication formats.
3. explain the evolution of land administration and policy from European settlement through current times.
4. explain the intent of key federal land management policies and provide examples of how they are applied in real life scenarios.
5. outline the administrative structures and tools of public land management in the US and provide examples of how they are applied in real life scenarios.
6. conduct and craft a professional caliber stakeholder and policy analysis brief for a given specific management project.
