This course is used by graduate programs to administer comprehensive examinations either as an end-of-program comprehensive examination or as a qualifying examination for doctoral candidates prior to being advanced to candidacy.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. demonstrate comprehensive understanding of key concepts, theories, and methodologies in physics through successful completion of the written comprehensive examination set by the department’s comprehensive exam committee.
2. solve advanced problems at graduate level in the general physics subjects of mathematical physics, classical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, quantum theory, and statistical mechanics during the Written Comprehensive Examination.
3. synthesize interdisciplinary knowledge and perspectives acquired throughout the PhD program to address comprehensive examination prompts effectively, showcasing a holistic understanding of physics principles and methodologies.
