ART 330 - Papermaking

Introduction to hand papermaking through traditional and contemporary methods. Students explore fiber preparation, sheet forming, and sculptural uses, emphasizing material properties, experimentation, and critique to build technical and creative skills for diverse mixed-media applications. Students should expect to spend time outside of class working in the studio on designated projects.

Prerequisite(s): ART 100 or ART 101 or ART 103A or ART 103B, or ART 103C; one additional studio course in ART or GRC.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. identify and describe the fundamental materials, tools, and processes of hand papermaking.
2. apply and experiment with a range of papermaking techniques to create expressive and structurally sound handmade papers.
3. analyze how handmade paper functions across different applications by interpreting creative studio projects.
4. discuss personal artistic decisions and participate effectively in peer critique.
