MINE 705 - Experimental Design and Process Optimization (3 units) Experimental design and data analysis using statistical methods; factorial design and process optimization.
Recommended Preparation: Introductory knowledge of probability distributions.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Offered: Every Fall
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. differentiate between classical and factorial experimental design and use the latter technique to gather information about a process with a limited number of experiments. 2. use a general statistical software package, such as SAS or Minitab, and the experimental design software package Design Expert. 3. screen important factors from unimportant factors, develop empirical models for individual process responses, and optimize process parameters to simultaneously satisfy multiple target responses.
