EDSP 700 - Foundations in Special Education & Disability History

Study of the foundations of special education and history of disability, with particular emphasis on the knowledge necessary to be a researcher and leader in the special education profession or related disability fields.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. explain the history and legislation of special education and disability, and the extent to which that knowledge is presented to beginning teacher and/or disability professionals.
2. analyze applicable case law in education and disability rights to explain the impact court decisions have on current special education and/or disability advocacy practice.
3. identify disability advocacy organizations and explain their role in the development of special education role and policy and continuing role in protecting rights of individuals with disabilities.
