ART 449 - Professional Practices for Artists (3 units) CO14 This course provides strategies for the professional artist. Students examine structures and systems within the art world to help them create their own dialog for maintaining a practice that is both engaging and financially viable.
Maximum units a student may earn: 3
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Art BFA Program.
Grading Basis: Graded Units of Laboratory/Studio: 3 Offered: Every Spring - Even Years
Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. demonstrate professional competencies in communication, presentation, and career preparation through assembled materials such as portfolios, documentation, personal bios, and artist statements. 2. apply advanced critical thinking and communication skills appropriate to the student’s academic level in both written and verbal formats. 3. analyze the structures of the art world and develop personalized strategies for sustaining a successful and productive life in the arts, including research into exhibition opportunities, residencies, grants, and MFA programs.
