JOUR 480 - Masterworks of Narrative Nonfiction (3 units) We will analyze some of the most influential works of book-length narrative nonfiction since 1945 with close attention to literary analysis and historical and biographical context.

Grading Basis: Graded Units of Lecture: 3 Student Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. analyze the reporting and writing strategies used by journalists to create rigorously true stories that aspire to the literary standards of the best fiction. 2. analyze trends in the development of narrative nonfiction from 1945 to the present. 3. articulate and defend their own interpretations of literary works in rigorous and challenging discussions.
