PSC 302 - Research Methods in Political Science

(3 units)
This course focuses on research methods, research design, and empirical data collection and analysis in political science. We will learn how to read and analyze rigorous political science research, design our own research projects, and do basic statistical analysis. The course equips students to conduct research and to evaluate others’ research critically.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. locate and identify reputable empirical political science research.
2. distinguish scientifically rigorous analysis in the discipline.
3. develop a research question and project.
4. analyze existing scholarship’s relationship to their own research questions.
5. identify different types of social science data.
6. develop testable hypotheses.
7. perform analysis of data using appropriate techniques for the topic and research design.
